Counts the working days between two dates, or finds the date a number of working days before or after a start date — for notice periods, delivery dates, payroll and contract deadlines. The weekend can be any days of the week, and the holidays excluded are listed by name so the count can be checked.
How working days are counted
Count between dates counts both the start and the end date by default, the way business days are usually counted: Monday to Friday of one week is 5 working days. Clear Include end date to stop the count the day before the end date. The dates can be in either order.
Add or subtract never counts the start date: the first working day after it is day 1, so 1 working day after a Friday is the next Monday, and so is 1 working day after a Saturday. Adding 0 returns the start date itself, even when it falls on a weekend.
A holiday is a day off only when it falls on a working day; a holiday on a weekend is already a day off and is counted once, as a weekend day. The US and UK sets use the days the holidays are taken, not the calendar dates, when a holiday falls on a weekend.

December 2026 in England
With a Saturday–Sunday weekend and UK bank holidays, December 2026 has 21 working days out of 31. Boxing Day falls on a Saturday, so its bank holiday moves to the next weekday: Christmas Day (25 December 2026) and Boxing Day (28 December 2026) are excluded.
20 working days from 2 July 2026 in the US
Counting from Thursday, 2 July 2026, the 20th working day is Friday, 31 July 2026, 29 calendar days later. Independence Day falls on a Saturday in 2026, so it is observed on Friday, 3 July 2026, which is skipped.
A six-day week in India, August 2026
With Sunday as the only day off, August 2026 has 25 working days. Independence Day falls on a Saturday, a working day in a six-day week, so it is excluded; with a Saturday–Sunday weekend it would not change the count.

Which holidays each set holds
- US federal holidays — the 11 holidays of 5 U.S.C. § 6103(a). A holiday on a Saturday is observed on the Friday before (§ 6103(b)) and one on a Sunday on the Monday after (Executive Order 11582), as OPM publishes them, so New Year's Day 2028 is taken on Friday, 31 December 2027 and counted in 2027. Inauguration Day is left out: it is a holiday only in the Washington, DC area. Counted from 1986, the first Martin Luther King Jr. Day; Juneteenth from 2021.
- UK bank holidays (England and Wales) — New Year's Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, the early May, spring and summer bank holidays, Christmas Day and Boxing Day, under the Banking and Financial Dealings Act 1971 and royal proclamations. A holiday on a weekend moves to the next weekday that is not already a holiday. One-off changes are included: the royal weddings of 1981 and 2011, the Millennium (31 December 1999), the jubilees of 2002, 2012 and 2022, VE Day in 1995 and 2020, the State Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II and the Coronation of King Charles III. Counted from 1978, the first early May bank holiday. Scotland and Northern Ireland have other holidays; add them as other days off.
- India national holidays — Republic Day (26 January), Independence Day (15 August) and Gandhi Jayanti (2 October), on their dates whatever the weekday. The other holidays of central government offices are set each year by the Department of Personnel and Training, and most follow lunar calendars; state lists differ again. Add the ones that apply as other days off.
Each set applies today's rules to every year from its first year on, including future years; a holiday announced later is not in it until the tool is updated. Before a set's first year no holidays are counted, and the result says so.
