Dice Roller

Roll one or many dice β€” d4 to d100 or any notation like 2d6+3, with totals.

Roll by
Die

Each die is rolled with your browser’s cryptographic random generator.

Rolls dice and adds them up. Pick a die and how many, or type dice notation as tabletop games write it. It opens on 2d6. Every die is rolled with your browser’s cryptographic random generator, so each face is equally likely, and each die is shown beside the total.

How to use it

Dice rolls 1 to 20 dice of one kind: d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20, d100. A d6 is drawn with pips and the others with their number; press the dice to roll them again.

Notation takes a roll written out. Under the field the tool shows the lowest and highest total the roll can give and its average. Capitals and spaces do not matter.

  • 2d6 β€” two six-sided dice, added: 2 to 12, average 7.
  • d20 β€” one die when the count is left out: 1 to 20, average 10.5.
  • 2d6+3 β€” a modifier added to the total: 5 to 15, average 10.
  • 1d8+1d6+2 β€” several groups in one roll: 4 to 16, average 10.
  • 4d6dl1 β€” drop the lowest die (also 4d6d1): 3 to 18, average 12.24.
  • 4d6kh3 β€” keep the highest three (also 4d6k3): 3 to 18, average 12.24.
  • 2d20kl1 β€” keep the lowest die: 1 to 20, average 7.18.
  • 4d6dh1 β€” drop the highest die: 3 to 18, average 8.76.
  • 3d6! β€” exploding dice: 3 or more, average 12.6.
  • d% β€” a percentile die, the same as d100: 1 to 100, average 50.5.

A dropped die stays in the result, struck through, so the roll can be checked. With exploding dice, a die that shows its highest face (marked !) adds another die, which can explode in turn; a group stops after 100 added dice. Their total has no upper end unless the group keeps a fixed number of dice, so the range reads β€œ3 or more, average 12.6”.

A group holds up to 100 dice of 2 to 1,000 sides, and a roll up to 10 groups and modifiers. The average is left out for exploding dice that also keep or drop, and for very large rolls. Notation the tool cannot read is named: β€œCouldn’t read β€œ2x6” β€” try 2d6”.

Times to roll repeats the whole roll 1 to 20 times and lists each total with their sum. The presets use it: Ability scores rolls 4d6dl1 6 times. History keeps the recent rolls of this visit in memory only.

Examples

Advantage and disadvantage

The Advantage preset rolls 2d20kh1, two d20s keeping the higher (1 to 20, average 13.83), and Disadvantage rolls 2d20kl1, keeping the lower (1 to 20, average 7.18). The chance of 15 or more is 30.00% on one d20, 51.00% with advantage and 9.00% with disadvantage.

Ability scores: 4d6, drop the lowest

4d6dl1 gives 3 to 18, average 12.24, against 3 to 18, average 10.5 for a plain 3d6. An 18 comes up 1.62% of the time instead of 0.46%.

Frequently asked questions

More pairs of faces add up to it than to any other total: 1 and 6, 2 and 5, 3 and 4, and each the other way round. The table above counts the ways for every total.
Only for which die is struck through. Keep and drop choose by value, and of two equal dice the earlier one is taken first, which does not change the total.
