WhatsApp Link Generator

Make a WhatsApp link and QR code: a wa.me address that opens a chat with your number, with a message ready to send.

The chat opens only if this number uses WhatsApp.

Your link appears here as you type.

Higher levels survive more damage but make a denser code.

Your QR code appears here as you type.

Makes a link that opens a WhatsApp chat with a phone number, with a message already typed in if you add one, and a QR code for the same link. It is WhatsApp's own click-to-chat address, wa.me, with no short link or redirect in between, so it works for as long as the number uses WhatsApp. The number and message stay in your browser until you open the link.

How to use it

  • Country β€” the country a number without its country code belongs to. It starts from your time zone (India where that gives none). A number typed with its code, after + or 00, takes priority, and the country follows it.
  • Phone number β€” spaces, dashes and brackets are dropped, and so is a leading 0 that is only dialled within the country (the UK's 07…, India's 0…). Italy's leading 0 is part of the number and stays. Under the field, the tool shows the number in international form as the link holds it. A number that does not look valid for its country gets a warning, but the link is still made: the check uses published numbering plans, which new ranges can outrun.
  • No number β€” a link that opens the sender's chat list, to send the message to anyone they choose.
  • Message β€” filled in for the sender, who can edit it before sending. Line breaks and emoji are kept.

The button beside the link's copy button opens it in a new tab, to try it. HTML for a web page is a plain β€œChat on WhatsApp” text link to paste into a site. The QR code takes the same design options as the QR Code Generator, and a test reader checks that it reads back. The design is remembered on this device; the number and message are not.

Nothing here can check that a number uses WhatsApp. If it does not, WhatsApp says so when the link is opened, instead of opening a chat.

How a wa.me link is built

WhatsApp's Help Center gives the format: the number in full international form, as digits only, without +, a leading 0, brackets or dashes; then, for a message, ?text= and the message percent-encoded, so a space becomes %20 and a line break %0A. With no number, wa.me/?text=… lets the sender pick the chat.

Examples

A UK mobile written with its leading 0

Country
United Kingdom
Phone number
07400 123456
Link
https://wa.me/447400123456

The 0 is dialled only within the UK, so it gives way to the country code, 44.

An Indian number with a two-line message

Country
India
Phone number
98765 43210
Message
Hi, is the flat on MG Road still available?
I can visit on Saturday.
Link
https://wa.me/919876543210?text=Hi%2C%20is%20the%20flat%20on%20MG%20Road%20still%20available%3F%0AI%20can%20visit%20on%20Saturday.

The comma becomes %2C, the question mark %3F and the line break %0A, so none of them is read as part of the address.

An Argentine mobile written locally

Country
Argentina
Phone number
011 15 2345-6789
Link
https://wa.me/5491123456789

The 0 and the mobile prefix 15 go, and 9 goes after the country code, 54, as WhatsApp asks for Argentina.

Numbers WhatsApp writes its own way

For most countries the link holds the number as the international standard writes it. WhatsApp's help on international numbers asks for two exceptions, which the tool applies:

  • Argentina (+54): a 9 between the country code and the area code, and no 15 prefix, making 13 digits in all.
  • Mexico (+52): a 1 after the country code. A number typed with that 1 is read the same way.

No. A group invite link is a different address, made by a group admin in WhatsApp from the group's info. To put one in a QR code, copy it into the Link type of the QR Code Generator.
