UPI QR Code Generator
Get paid by UPI with a QR code: the payer scans it with any UPI app and pays straight to your UPI ID.
Printed on the poster. Paying apps show the name your bank holds for this UPI ID.
Leave empty for the payer to enter it.
Up to 50 characters, such as what the payment is for.
Printable poster
Your poster appears here as you type.
A page to print for a counter or a door: βScan & Pay with any UPI appβ, the code, the payee name and the UPI ID, and the amount when you set one.
Printed above the code, on the poster only.
Print at 100% (actual size), not βFit to pageβ.
Design
Higher levels survive more damage but make a denser code.
Your QR code appears here as you type.
For a page to put up at a counter, with the payee name and UPI ID under the code, use Download poster PDF under Printable poster.
Makes a QR code that UPI apps such as Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm and BHIM scan to pay you, straight into the bank account behind your UPI ID. Set an amount for a fixed payment, or leave it for the payer to enter. It also makes a Scan & Pay poster to print for a counter, a stall or a door. The code and the poster are made in your browser: nothing you type is uploaded.
How to use it
- UPI ID β the ID payments go to, such as
name@bank; your UPI app shows it on its profile or receive-money screen. Capitals are made lowercase, with a notice, since UPI IDs are written in lowercase. The tool checks the form of the ID, not that it exists. - Payee name β required in every UPI code. It is printed on the poster; the paying app shows the name your bank holds for the UPI ID instead (see the rules below).
- Amount β in rupees, with up to 2 decimal places for paise. Commas are accepted where Indian (1,50,000) or international (150,000) grouping puts them. Leave it empty and the payer types the amount, which suits a code that stays up for every payment.
- Note β a short description of the payment, such as βRent for Mayβ, up to 50 characters.
The printable poster is an A6, A5 or A4 PDF headed βScan & Pay with any UPI appβ, with the code, the payee name, the UPI ID in a monospaced font, and the amount when you set one. A Shop name adds a heading above it, on the poster only. A preview shows the poster with your design. Print it at 100%, not βFit to pageβ.
The code takes the same design options as the QR Code Generator, and a test reader checks that it reads back. Its Scans as text is what a UPI app reads from it. The design and poster size are remembered on this device; the payment details are not.
What a UPI QR code holds
The code holds a upi://pay link, the format NPCI's UPI Linking Specifications define for QR codes and payment links: the UPI ID after pa, the payee name after pn, the amount after am, a note after tn, and the currency, always INR, after cu. Without am the payer's app lets them enter the amount. The name and note are percent-encoded, with a space as %20, as the specification asks, and the amount is written with its paise, such as 1500.00.
Merchant codes add a merchant category (mc), a transaction reference (tr) and often a signature. This tool leaves them out: it makes personal codes, for payments to your own UPI ID.
upi://pay?pa=<UPI ID>&pn=<payee name>&am=<amount>&tn=<note>&cu=INR
Examples
A code the payer enters the amount into
- UPI ID
- ravi.kumar@okbank
- Payee name
- Ravi Kumar
- Scans as
- upi://pay?pa=ravi.kumar@okbank&pn=Ravi%20Kumar&cu=INR
A fixed amount with a note
- UPI ID
- sharma.stores@okbank
- Payee name
- Sharma & Sons
- Amount (optional)
- 1,500
- Note (optional)
- Rent for May
- Scans as
- upi://pay?pa=sharma.stores@okbank&pn=Sharma%20%26%20Sons&am=1500.00&tn=Rent%20for%20May&cu=INR
The comma is removed and the paise added, and the & and spaces in the name and note are percent-encoded, so the app does not read them as the start of another field.
UPI rules, and what apps show
The fields follow NPCI's UPI Linking Specifications 1.6: pa and pn are mandatory, am is a decimal amount that, when absent, leaves the amount for the payer to enter, and INR is the only currency. NPCI's circular OC 37 (1 November 2017) requires every UPI app to follow its deep linking specifications, and OC 28 (18 August 2017) requires every UPI app to scan UPI QR codes as well as Bharat QR.
Tested on Android phones on 16 October 2026, Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm and BHIM each paid codes from this tool, both with an amount (filled in for the payer) and without one. A upi://pay link tapped on a web page opened a choice of the phone's UPI apps, each with the details filled in.
None of the apps relied on the typed payee name. PhonePe, Paytm and BHIM showed the name the payee's bank holds for the UPI ID, with the ID itself; Google Pay showed the typed name for a moment, then the bank's. Google Pay also refused one UPI ID as invalid, typed by hand as well as scanned, that the other three apps paid. This tool cannot check that apps accept a UPI ID, so pay βΉ1 to a new code from the apps your payers use before you print it.
