Compress by

Gets a PDF under 100 KB, the limit some application forms set for a certificate or ID proof. The result says how small it got and what changed, and you can read the pages at 100% before downloading. The PDF is compressed on your device and never uploaded.

How to use it

Every visit starts at Target size, Max size 100 KB and no minimum. Set Min size when the form also rejects small files, and change Max size for a lower limit such as 50 KB. Your other choices are remembered on this device.

The images in the PDF are saved again at the sharpest setting that fits, down to 72 DPI, while text, links and form fields stay as they are. Below that, the result gives the smallest size reached and offers Convert pages to images: each page saved as one JPG, down to 72 DPI, with text that can no longer be selected. When even that is too large, the PDF has too many pages for the size: Split PDF divides it into parts.

Greyscale images saves the images in shades of grey, which often makes the difference for a colour scan of a printed page.

Examples

A form asking for 50 KB to 100 KB

Max size (KB)
100
Min size (KB)
50
File size
51,200 to 100,000 bytes

The maximum counts 1,000 bytes per KB and the minimum 1,024, so the file is inside the range whichever way the form counts.

A 50 KB limit

Change Max size to 50, and the PDF comes out at no more than 50,000 bytes.

Where the limits come from

Each row is from the portal's own notice for the cycle named: the National Testing Agency's information bulletins and the IBPS recruitment notifications. Limits change between cycles, so check the current notice before you apply. The SSC, UPSC and CTET notices of the same year set limits for the photo and signature only, so they are not listed.

The IBPS notices also ask for A4 pages, and for a scan that comes out over the limit to be scanned again at a lower resolution or with fewer colours. Compressing the scan you already have reaches the same size without scanning again.

Frequently asked questions

Rarely while staying readable: that leaves about 10 KB a page. Convert pages to images and Greyscale images get closest; if the form takes several files, splitting the PDF keeps each part sharper.
No. Your browser reads, compresses and saves the files on your device; they are not sent to CornerTools or anyone else, and neither is a password you type. To check, open the browser's developer tools at the Network tab and add a PDF: no request carries it. The PDF engine downloads from this site the first time you use it: a download to your browser, not an upload of your file.
