Generates lorem ipsum placeholder text for mock-ups, templates and layouts: as many paragraphs as you need, in plain text, Markdown or HTML, with optional headings, lists, quotes and code blocks to test how a design handles real content.
Options
- Generate — paragraphs (1 to 100), sentences (1 to 1,000) or words (1 to 10,000). Sentences and words give exactly the number asked for, grouped into paragraphs.
- Start with Lorem ipsum… — opens the text with the classic “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.” Asked for fewer than eight words, it gives that many of them.
- Paragraph length — short (2–3 sentences), medium (4–6) or long (7–10). A sentence has 8 to 16 words, some with a comma or two; the last sentence of a word count can run from 1 to 19 to land on the number.
- Output format — plain text, Markdown or HTML tags, ready to paste into a document, a README or a page.
- Content blocks — offered when generating paragraphs: headings, lists, blockquotes and code, each added once for every five paragraphs and placed at random, never two of a kind in a row.
Regenerate produces new text with the same options; Copy copies it all.
About the text
Lorem ipsum descends from a passage of Cicero's De finibus bonorum et malorum, scrambled so that it reads like Latin without meaning anything, which keeps attention on the layout rather than the words. The generator builds sentences from a fixed list of about 75 such words.
