Turns photos and scans into a PDF: a set of document pages for a form or portal, receipts for an expense claim, or pictures to share as one file. Add up to 50 images, put them in order, choose the page size, and download one PDF or one for each image. JPG photos go in as they are, without being saved again, so they lose no quality. The images are converted on your device and never uploaded.

How to use it

Add images by dropping them on the tool, pasting them, or with Choose images, which on a phone also offers the camera. Each image becomes a page, shown as it will be in the PDF: on its paper, with the margin, fit and colour you choose. Drag pages to reorder them (on a phone, press and hold first). Above the grid, Sort orders the pages by name, or by date taken when the photos record it, and the buttons turn or delete the pages you pick; with a mouse, each page has its own. Undo puts back any change.

  • Page size: A4, Letter, Legal, A3 or A5, or Fit to image for pages the size of each image. It starts at Letter where the browser's language names a country that uses Letter paper (the US, Canada, Mexico and others), and A4 elsewhere.
  • Orientation: Auto turns each page to match its image, landscape for a wide photo and portrait for a tall one; Portrait or Landscape sets every page.
  • Margin: none, 10 mm or 20 mm of white around each image.
  • Image on the page: Whole image shows all of it, leaving white bands where its shape differs from the page; Fill (crop) covers the page and cuts off what overflows.
  • Colour: Original, Greyscale, or Black and white for documents, which makes the paper white and the text black and gives the smallest files.
  • Output: one PDF of every image, or one PDF for each, downloaded together as a ZIP.
  • Limit file size: the largest the PDF may be, in KB, for portals with an upload limit. 1 KB counts as 1,000 bytes, so the file also fits limits that count 1,024.

What goes into the PDF

A JPG is placed in the PDF as its own bytes: PDF readers decode JPG themselves, so the photo is not compressed a second time. Its metadata (EXIF, XMP, IPTC, including any GPS location) is removed first, and its colour profile kept. A phone stores many photos sideways with a note to turn them; the page turns the image instead, so it shows upright without being saved again.

In Original colour, PNG, GIF and BMP images are stored without loss, and transparent areas stay transparent. HEIC, WebP and AVIF, which PDF cannot hold, are saved as JPG at quality 92. Greyscale saves every image again as a grey JPG; Black and white evens out the lighting across the page, then stores one bit per pixel, a fraction of a photo's size.

With Fit to image, each page takes its image's size at the resolution it states. Phones and most editors state 72 DPI, or none, which would make pages several feet wide, so below 150 DPI an image is laid out at 300 DPI: the size it prints well at.

With a size limit, a PDF that is already under it is left as it is. Otherwise every image is saved again as JPG at one quality, the highest that fits, so no page looks worse than the rest; if even quality 50 is too large, the images are also made smaller, down to 20% of their width and height. The PDF is never larger than the limit: when the limit cannot be met, the tool says how small it got instead.

Page size
Fit to image
Image
4000 ร— 3000 px, stating 72 DPI
Page
13.3 in ร— 10 in (338.7 mm ร— 254 mm)

At its stated 72 DPI the page would be 55.6 inches wide; at 300 DPI it is the size the photo prints sharp at.

Auto
Margin
10 mm
Page
297 mm ร— 210 mm, landscape
Image
253.3 mm ร— 190 mm

Auto turns the page to landscape for the wide photo. Its shape is wider than the page inside the margin, so the photo fills the width and leaves white above and below.

Frequently asked questions

Its size is mostly its photos': a JPG goes in as it is, so ten 3 MB phone photos make a PDF of about 30 MB. Turn on Limit file size to bring it under a size, or choose Black and white for document scans.
Turn on Limit file size and enter 200. For pages of a document, choose Black and white too: it keeps text sharp at a fraction of the size of a colour photo. If a portal takes several files, One per image gives each page its own limit.
No. The camera details, date and GPS location stored in a photo are removed before it goes into the PDF, and the PDF itself records no author, device or dates.
No. Your browser reads, converts and saves the images on your device; they are not sent to CornerTools or anyone else. To check, open the browser's developer tools at the Network tab and add an image: no request carries it. The first HEIC photo you add downloads a decoder from this site: a download to your browser, not an upload of your photo.
