Ideal Weight Calculator
Find a healthy weight range for your height, with the Devine, Robinson, Miller and Hamwi formulas.
Enter your height to see the result.
Gives the range of weights that make a healthy BMI at your height, on the standard bands or NICE's lower thresholds, and the four “ideal body weight” formulas beside it: Devine, Robinson, Miller and Hamwi. Every calculation runs in your browser.
How it works
The healthy range is every weight the BMI Calculator would place in the healthy band at your height, rounded inward to 0.1 kg or a whole pound.
Each formula adds a fixed weight for every inch above 5 ft to a base weight at 5 ft, so they are not given below 152.4 cm. Hamwi's is printed in pounds and converted exactly. None of them was made as a health target: Devine's was taken up for drug dosing, because some drugs' levels follow it, and the others were fitted to the same kind of height–weight tables. They disagree by several kilograms at most heights and ignore build, muscle and age, which is why the healthy range leads.
Healthy range: 18.45 × height (m)² ≤ weight < 24.95 × height (m)² (22.95 on the lower thresholds)
Men — Devine: 50 kg + 2.3 kg per inch over 5 ft
Men — Robinson: 52 kg + 1.9 kg per inch over 5 ft
Men — Miller: 56.2 kg + 1.41 kg per inch over 5 ft
Men — Hamwi: 106 lb + 6 lb per inch over 5 ft
Women — Devine: 45.5 kg + 2.3 kg per inch over 5 ft
Women — Robinson: 49 kg + 1.7 kg per inch over 5 ft
Women — Miller: 53.1 kg + 1.36 kg per inch over 5 ft
Women — Hamwi: 100 lb + 5 lb per inch over 5 ft

Rules and sources
The healthy range follows NICE NG246's BMI bands. The formulas' coefficients are as Peterson and colleagues (2016) list them; Pai and Paloucek (2000) trace where they came from and find them alike because the height–weight tables behind them agree.
